Bio-polishing enzyme (Neutral cellulase)
Description
Cotton fabrics often exhibit surface fuzziness. Traditional treatments typically involve singeing and mercerization. While these methods yield satisfactory results, improper process control or operation can lead to subsequent dyeing defects such as streaks and color variations.
Bio-polishing enzyme (Neutral cellulase) catalytically hydrolyzes the 1,4-β-glycosidic bonds in cellulose fibers, resulting in controlled fiber degradation. Its application in textile finishing is termed bio-polishing technology. Cotton knits treated with bio-polishing exhibit enhanced surface smoothness, improved fabric definition, and superior softness. This process also positively impacts dyeing quality of greige goods. This universal Neutral cellulase is particularly suitable for cotton-spandex blends (cotton lycra), causing minimal fiber damage.
Properties
Composition: High-efficiency enzyme preparation
Appearance: Pale brownish-yellow transparent liquid
pH Value: 4–6
Solubility: Miscible with water in all proportions at ambient temperature
Key Features
1. Enhances knitwear abrasion resistance, effectively preventing pilling.
2. Improves fiber softness for superior comfort and extended garment lifespan.
3. Increases color fastness, reducing fading and deformation during washing.
4. Suitable for de-pilling/polishing finishes on cellulosic fibers and blends, and enzyme wash/stone-wash effects for denim garment finishing.
5. Effectively removes surface fuzz, yielding a clean, smooth fabric surface. Minimizes dye redeposition during processing, enhancing fabric luster and color vibrancy.
Application Method
Dosage: 0.08% ~ 0.2% (owf)
pH: 6.0 - 6.5 (Critical Parameter)
Temperature: 55°C (131°F)
Time: 90 minutes
Recommended Process Parameters:
Liquor Ratio: 1:4 to 1:5
pH Control: 6.0 - 6.5 (Use buffer if required; extremely critical)
Machine Speed: Reduce by 20% compared to dyeing speed (e.g., 200 rpm if dyeing at 250 rpm)
Rinse Flow Rate: Reduce by 20% compared to dyeing rinse flow rate
Water Quality: If high in metal ions, add chelating/dispersing agent (0.1 - 0.5 g/L)
Heating Procedure: Heat bath to approx. 55°C. Pre-dilute the enzyme thoroughly in warm water (≤ 55°C) in a subsidiary vessel before adding to the main drum. Never add enzyme to cold bath and then heat rapidly, or expose to localized high temperature, to avoid enzyme deactivation.
Sensitive Colors: Avoid combined dyeing and bio-polishing for sensitive shades (e.g., turquoise, bright blue). Perform bio-polishing before dyeing.
Precautions
1. Before use, cool the dye bath to the optimal temperature (typically 50-60°C). Adjust and stabilize the pH to ensure uniform distribution throughout the bath before adding the bio-polishing enzyme.
2. Cellulase (bio-polishing enzyme) is generally safe: non-flammable and fully water-soluble. As enzymes are proteins, inhalation of dust/aerosols may cause allergic reactions in sensitized individuals. Prolonged exposure may irritate skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. Avoid vigorous agitation (to prevent airborne dust generation). Spills should be rinsed immediately with water.
Storage & Packaging
1. Store at 0–25°C to maintain activity for ≥3 months. Suboptimal storage progressively diminishes enzymatic activity, requiring higher dosage. Recommended: Seal containers and store at low temperature; avoid direct sunlight.
2. Packaged in HDPE (high-density polyethylene) drums, 30 kg/drum.
